MUMBAI: Zee Telugu’s half a decade old family drama ‘Muddha Mandaram’ is all set to go off-air on 27th December. The family drama starring Haritha, Pawan Sai and Thanuja Gowda in lead roles.

Produced by Annapurna Studios, the show garnered eyeballs with its compelling story line and strong characterisation. The show encapsulates the story of a strong-willed and stubborn woman, Akhilandeshwari, her elder son Deva, and his love story with Parvati, their help. This popular show had reached a novel milestone earlier this year by completing 1500 episodes and has also been remade into various languages like Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada.

Since its launch, ‘Muddha Mandaram’ has garnered a huge fan base in the Telugu market. Audiences have fondly adored and loved the on-screen chemistry between the lead characters Parvathi and Deva, who reincarnated as Soundarya and Abhinandan. The show was also widely popular among mothers, owing to their strong connect with Akhilandeshwari’s character and her compassion towards her son.

Commenting on his stint on the show, her co-actor Pawan Sai says, “5 years, over 1580 episodes, and Infinite Love. It’s difficult to contain the myriad of emotions running inside me and yet words elude me. Muddha Mandaram for me is a pure sign of family attachments and emotional bonding followed by responsibilities. I take the liberty to say this on behalf of the entire cast and crew, that we gave it our all. There were no half measures. All I feel right now is overwhelming gratitude for all the lives who collaborated on this epic journey and the ones embraced this as your own.”

Tata Sky STB prices go up; now start from Rs 1,399

Tata Sky recently increased its set-top-box prices again after offering the Diwali Discount for a limited period. Now selling at a starting price of Rs 1,399, prices have basically gone back to what they were before the temporary price reduction. In case you didn’t know, Tata Sky prices had gone down by up to Rs 300 during Diwali. While the Standard Definition STB was offered at Rs 1,099, the HD variant was selling for Rs 1,199. With the discounts gone, the SD STB price is back to Rs 1,399 and the HD STB to Rs 1,499.

According to Telecom Talk, Tata Sky is also coming out with two new set-top-boxes. These are the Tata Sky 4K box and the Tata Sky+ HD Box. The 4K box will cost Rs 6,400, while the Tata Sky+ HD Box will sell at Rs 9,300.

Tata Sky still lacking Android-TV services
Meanwhile, there is still no Android TV-based set-top-box for customers, even though it is the leading DTH service in the country. Competition like Airtel Digital TV and Dish TV have already launched Android TV-based alternatives. While Dish TV has launched the Dish SMRT Hub box at Rs 3,999, Airtel has launched the Xstream Box at a reduced rate of Rs 2,249.

Tata Sky is yet to launch anything similar. However, customers can still make use of the Binge service, which is available to existing users at no extra cost. Further, users of the SD STB can upgrade to an HD STB at just Rs 999, saving Rs 500 compared to the price they’d pay if they get a new one.

Another area the brand is lacking in is the initial free services. Unlike Dish TV and Airtel Digital TV, the company is not offering any free channels or services. Customers have no choice but to choose a paid plan right from the beginning to start their TV-watching experience. This is an addition to the installation charges they already will be paying.

TRAI's new tariff framework: More channels at lesser subscription price

$
0
0
In a bid to protect consumer interests, TRAI on Wednesday made amendments to the new regulatory framework for cable and broadcasting services under which cable TV users will be able to access more channels at lower subscription price. Significantly, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) capped at Rs. 160 the amount consumers will have to pay monthly for all free to air channels. TRAI, in a statement, said it has decided that in case of multi-TV homes where more than one TV connection is working in the name of one person, it will charge a maximum of 40 per cent of declared Network Capacity Fee (NCF) for the second and additional TV connections.

After examining various provisions, TRAI has also reduced the maximum NCF charge to Rs 130 (excluding taxes) for 200 channels.

In addition, it has also been decided that channels declared mandatory by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will not be counted in the number of channels in the NCF.

The Authority has also permitted Distribution Platform Operators (DPOs) to offer discounts on long-term subscriptions which are for six months or more.

The sum of the a-la-carte rates of the pay channels forming part of a bouquet shall in no case exceed one and a half times the rate of the bouquet of which such pay channels are a part, the TRAI said.

The a-la-carte rates of each pay channel (MRP), forming part of a bouquet, shall in no case exceed three times the average rate of a pay channel of the bouquet of which such pay channel is a part, it said.

TRAI also decided that only those channels which have an MRP of Rs 12 or less will be permitted to be part of the bouquet offered by broadcasters.

The regulator said it has also considered the concern of broadcasters regarding huge carriage fee being charged by DPOs.

A cap of Rs 4 lakh per month has been prescribed on carriage fee payable by a broadcaster to a DPO in a month for carrying a channel in the country, the TRAI said.

The Authority has also considered giving more flexibility to DPOs to place the TV channels on Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) and mandated that channel of a language in a genre will be kept together while placing channels on EPG.

Such EPG lay out is to be mandatorily reported to the TRAI and no change in this can be done without prior approval of the Authority, the statement said.

The new rules are part of the changes the regulator has made to its 2017 tariff order for broadcasting and cable TV services. They will be effective from March 1.

Chandrayaan 3 confirmed by ISRO chairman K. Sivan

India’s last mission to the moon wasn’t exactly the success that the brilliant team back at ISRO expected. However, the organization has revealed that another attempt to reach the moon in the form of Chandrayaan 3 is in the works. Further, the new mission will cost Rs 6.51 billion. This would make Chandrayaan 3 less expensive than the Chandrayaan 2 mission. The latter, was already the least expensive moon mission in history.

ISRO will also be busy preparing for Gangayaan, the organization’s first human spaceflight. “This is going to be the year of Chandrayaan 3 and Gaganyaan, I would say,” said K. Sivan, ISRO chairman during the New Year’s Day press briefing.

Sivan also disclosed that ISRO will set up a second spaceport in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu after successfully acquired land. The new site will be the site from where the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV).

Chandrayaan 3 official confirmation
The rumors of a second lunar mission by ISRO have been up in the air for a while now. Ever since Chandrayaan 2 lander Vikram crashed into the lunar surface on September 7 2019, ISRO was expected to make a comeback. The recent revelations by Sivan only serve as the official confirmation for the same. “One major announcement I wanted to make here, officially,is that Chandrayaan 3 is government approved. The project is now formed. The activities for Chandrayaan 3 are going very smoothly, said the chairman.

Least expensive lunar mission in history
The Chandrayaan 3 will cost lesser than the Chandrayaan 2 which was already the cheapest lunar mission in history. This is possible because of successful achievements made by the Chandrayaan 2 mission. The mission’s orbiter is still circling the lunar surface at 100 kilometers altitude. Further, it has a lifespan of up to seven years. Hence, the new mission will only be sending a rover and a lander to the moon.

The feat also reduces the cost of the project to Rs 6.15 billion instead of the Chandrayaan 2’s Rs 10 billion. What remains unchanged is the rocket used to send the lander. ISRO will use the same GSLV to launch the new rover and lander.

The mission still has no final launch date and it is unlikely that it will take place in 2020. Sivan predicts another 14 to 16 months to complete the spacecraft. Hence, we can perhaps expect a launch in the year 2021.

Reliance Jio launches Rs. 251 prepaid plans: Here's how it competes against Airtel, Vodafone

Telecom giants in India recently took a hit after the new TRAI rules required them to hike the prices of their prepaid plans. Reliance Jio still managed to offer 1.5GB of data per day at just Rs. 199 where Airtel and Vodafone were charging Rs. 199 for a similar plan. The telecom operator has now come up with a new prepaid plan titled ‘Jio Cricket Pack’ and it is priced at Rs. 251. Here's what it brings to the table.

Reliance Jio is offering 2GB daily 4G data with the Rs. 251 plan. That's it! In order to cut down, the company is not offering any free calls or SMS messages with the new pack. The plan is focused solely on the users that need only data benefits. Jio's new Rs. 251 prepaid STV (Special Tariff Voucher) brings a validity of 51 days.

In comparison, Bharti Airtel has an affordable prepaid plan priced at Rs. 249 that offers 1.5GB of 4G data per day. The pack brings unlimited calls, 100 SMS messages per day and more. As for the validity, the plan offers only 28 days of validity on the prepaid plan.

On the other hand, Vodafone Idea also has a prepaid plan priced at around Rs. 249 that offers similar benefits as offered by Airtel. The plan brings 28 days validity, unlimited calls, 100 SMS messages per day, 1.5GB data per day and more.

Reliance Jio is pushing towards the user base that only uses their Jio SIM just to surf the internet. This might come in handy for JioFi users as well.
