Tata Sky has announced a price cut on its set-top box in India. The company has slashed the price of its Tata Sky+ HD set-top box in the country.

With this, new customers can now buy the set-top box for Rs 4301. The set-top box was earlier available for Rs 9,300 for new customers. Moving on, existing customers can also upgrade to the Tata Sky+ HD set-top box at a reduced price. The company is offering the box for Rs 4,499 for its customers. The device was earlier available for purchase for Rs 7890, though the company announced a price cut and it was available for Rs 5,999 in May. The set-top box offers a host of interesting features.

The set-top box supports web apps and it comes with 500GB of disk space. Users can forward or rewind a show and one can also pause it. It offers a resolution of 1080p and it features Dolby Audio as well. It comes with the Series Link feature, through which it can record all episodes of your favourite TV series, and skip the repeats.

Meanwhile, Tata Sky is reportedly planning to cut channels and packs of around 70 lakh customers in India. The company's latest move is to bring down the monthly bill of its subscribers during the Coronavirus outbreak.

The company has lost over 1.5 million customers during the lockdown period as the users have failed to pay bills or renew subscriptions, which was a result of layoff and cut in incomes. The company said that the move is meant to retain customers with monthly billing of Rs 350 or less. With this, the company will reduce the subscribed channels and packs of almost 70 lakh subscribers from June 15.

Tata Sky has announced a new user interface for its range of set-top boxes in India. The company has introduced a new one-stop solution to discover trending content on the non-smart set-top boxes in India.

The company has revealed that the feature is available across all HD and SD set-top boxes in the country. With this, users will be able to discover content under Top Movies and Live Sports by simply pressing the yellow button on the Tata Sky remote control.

In ‘Top Movies’ section, subscribers can choose movie titles from 8 languages including English, Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Bengali that are filtered basis a rating of 5.5 and above.

This not only allows the subscribers to access the best films across the list of available channels but also saves channel-surfing time. Similarly, the feature acts as a guide to live sporting events whenever they air.

The new Home App also includes Channel Info and Channel Search options, which makes it easier for users to discover and subscribe to new channels categorised by channel name, channel number, genre and languages at the simple touch of a button.

It comes with a one-stop self-care solution to independently address daily account-related requirements like adding channels that are carrying trending content to the bouquet, changing RMN, among others.

Talking about the feature, a Tata Sky Spokesperson said, “At Tata Sky it has always been our endeavour to provide our subscribers with the widest variety of content delivered via best in class technology. The new Home App is another innovation unique to Tata Sky’s set-top boxes, providing subscribers with a readymade content guide thereby making it convenient to choose from trending movies and sporting events by simply pressing the yellow button on the remote control.”

BSNL extends Work@Home broadband plan, 6 paise cashback offer again, reintroduces Rs 299 and Rs 491 Plans

BSNL has extended the validity of its Work@Home broadband plan again until July 26. The operator has also extended 6 paise cashback offer as well. Additionally, it has also reintroduced its Rs 299 and Rs 491 broadband plans.

The “Work@Home" promotional broadband was initially launched in March with a validity of one month until April 19. The plan was earlier also extended until June 20. The plan offers 5GB of data per day to all users at a speed of 10Mbps.

BSNL Chennai site has issued a circular announcing the extension till July 26 this month. After the 5GB data is exhausted in a day, the speeds will drop to 1 Mbps. The plan is free and there is no installation or security deposit involved.

BSNL has also extended the 6 paisa cashback offer for its landline users. The offer is now available until July 31, 2020. The cashback offer is available for BSNL wireline, broadband and fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) users across the country. BSNL had earlier extended the offer till June 30. Now the telco has extended for one more month. The BSNL Karnataka division has announced the extension through a tweet.

According to the offer, BSNL will offer 6 paise as cashback for making landline calls for more than five minutes. Users can avail this offer by simply sending an SMS ‘ACT 6 paisa’ to 9478053334 from their registered mobile number. The money is credited in the form of cashback to the subscriber.

BSNL Rs 299 and Rs 491 broadband plans were launched last year. Now, the two plans have been reintroduced, for a period of 90 days by the telco. BSNL Rs 299 broadband plan offers unlimited voice calling via BSNL landline service and 20 Mbps speeds up to 50GB, after which the speeds will be reduced to 1 Mbps, and there’s no FUP limit. If the user does not migrate to another plan after six months, BSNL will change them to the 2GB CUL plan that is priced at Rs 399 per month. The 2GB CUL plan offers 2GB per day data at 8Mbps speeds.

BSNL Rs 491 broadband plan offers unlimited voice calling option to any network within India and 20 Mbps speeds and 120GB FUP limit every month, after which the speeds will be reduced to 1 Mbps. After six months, BSNL will automatically migrate the Rs 491 plan users to 3GB CUL broadband plan priced at Rs 499 after six months. The 3GB CUL plan offers 3GB per day data at 8Mbps speeds.

ACT Fibernet has upgraded its broadband plans in the country with speeds up to 300Mbps on offer. The internet provider is offering the revised plans to its existing as well as new customers. If you’re an ACT Fibernet user in Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad or Chennai, the new plans will be available.

In addition to upgraded speeds, the plans now also come with more data usage and new fair usage policy (FUP) limit. The ACT Platinum Promo plan offers speeds up to 200Mbps, while the Diamond plan gets you 300Mbps speed. Interestingly, the company hasn’t changed the prices of these plans and these came into effect from 1 July onwards.

So with these changes, the Platinum plan offers 200Mbps speed for data usage up to 1,000GB, after which the speed will come down to 1Mbps. For the time being, you’re getting additional 1,000GB data bandwidth. As for the Diamond plan, you get 300Mbps speed with data usage of 1,500GB, with the option of going up to 2,500GB with the additional 1,000GB on offer. These plans are priced at Rs 1,049 and Rs 1,349 respectively.

It’s worth noting that only these two plans have been upgraded, rest of them come with same data speeds and usage limit. You can get more details or sign up for the new plans by going to the ACT Fibernet website. The company had revised its data speeds to support customers working from home. Offering 300Mbps internet speed with high data usage limit means people can rely on consistent internet coverage. This is essential for attending video meetings and making sure multiple devices in the home support high-speed internet connectivity.

With people staying indoors because of the pandemic, demand for streaming platforms, gaming and other online activities have gone up. Other have also changed their data offerings to support the demand from home broadband users across the country.

Bharti Airtel has announced that it will offer faster 4G data speeds on the smartphones and connected devices of its selected customers. The company has revealed that the new experience is only exclusive for the Airtel Platinum mobile customers in the country.

Under this, the operator has deployed advanced technologies that give its Platinum mobile customers preference on the network. As a result, all Platinum customers will experience faster 4G speeds. As part of the Airtel Thanks programme, all postpaid mobile customers on Rs 499 and above plans are designated as Platinum

To get the ‘Priority 4G Network’ experience, existing Airtel and non-Airtel customers can upgrade to Airtel postpaid plans starting at Rs 499. As part of Platinum care, Airtel will home deliver the ‘Priority 4G SIM’ to homes of customers.

In addition, Airtel Platinum customers get red carpet customer care with preferential service at call centres and retail stores. All Airtel call centres and retail stores have dedicated staff to attend to Platinum customers on priority and cut down on waiting time.

Shashwat Sharma, CMO – Bharti Airtel said: “It has been our endeavour to offer a differentiated service experience to our Platinum mobile customers as part of the Airtel Thanks program. And that’s where we will deliver that ‘extra’ service experience to them, including faster speeds by giving them preference on our 4G network, while continuing to serve each of our 280 million customers with the same passion.”

Meanwhile, the telecom operator announced that it has partnered with Nokia to launch an open cloud-based Voice Over LTE (VoLTE) network in India. The company claims that it is the largest cloud-based VoLTE network in India as it will support over 110 million customers.

BSNL has launched a new prepaid Special Tariff Voucher (STV) of Rs 599 for its users. The prepaid plan will be available in all circles except for Mumbai and Delhi.

The new plan, which is available as a “Work from Home, WFH” offers a whopping 5GB data per day. BSNL Chennai has announced the launch of the Rs 599 prepaid plan through a tweet.

Apart from data, the plan also offers unlimited voice calling to any network within India capped at 250 minutes per day and 100 SMSes per day to any network including MTNL networks. The validity of the plan is 90 days from the date of recharge.

BSNL customers can recharge with the Rs 599 plan by sending an SMS message “STV COMBO599 to 123. Alternatively, the plan is available through BSNL's web portal.

Recently, BSNL extended the validity of its Work@Home broadband plan again until July 26. The operator extended 6 paise cashback offer as well. Additionally, the telco has also reintroduced its Rs 299 and Rs 491 broadband plans.

BSNL Work@Home broadband plan offers 5GB of data per day to all users at a speed of 10Mbps. After the 5GB data is exhausted in a day, the speeds will drop to 1 Mbps. BSNL 6 paisa cashback offer for its landline users is now available until July 31, 2020. The cashback offer is available for BSNL wireline, broadband and fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) users across the country.

BSNL has launched two new prepaid plans of Rs 94 and Rs 95. Both the plans comes with data and calling benefits. They are offered across India except in Andhra Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, Telangana and Odisha circles.

The plans have been introduced after the company recently discontinued the Rs 96 prepaid plan, which is also known as Vasantham Gold PV 96 for its customers in both Chennai and Tamil Nadu circles. This plan was offering a validity of 60 days along with calling and SMS benefits.

Plan Advance 94 and Plan Advance 95 come with 3GB data benefits, 100 minutes of free call benefits and 60-day validity for users. The free voice calls can be consumed on the home network and on national roaming including the Delhi and Mumbai circles. However, users need to consume the free data and free voice calls within the plan validity period of 90 days.

BSNL calculates the pulse rate of the Rs 94 plan on a per-minute basis while the pulse rate of the Rs 95 plan is calculated on a per-second basis. Both the plan also offer a free caller tune facility for 60 days. Notably, BSNL offers caller tunes under its Personalised Ring Back Tone (PRBT) service and charges Rs 30 per month and an additional Rs 12 for song selection.

After the consumption of free calls on the Rs 94 plan, BSNL charges Rs 1 per minute and Rs 1.3 per minute for local calls and STD calls respectively. After the consumption of free calls on the Rs 95 plan, BSNL will charge Rs 0.02 per second on local calls and Rs 0.024 per second on STD calls.

For the SMS, BSNL will charge Rs 0.8 per local SMS and Rs 1.2 for national SMS on the Rs 94 and Rs 95 plans. Customers can activate PV 94 and PV 95 through top up, web portal and self care and SMS, reports TelecomTalk.

Bharti Airtel has announced the launch of a new prepaid plan in India. Dubbed as Rs 289, the pack comes with premium Zee5 subscription. Furthermore, the company has also introduced a new top-up plan for its customers as well.

To start with Rs 289 prepaid plan offers premium Zee5 subscription. This means users can access to the full catalogue of Zee5 including hits such as Ghoomketu, ChintuKa Birthday, RangbaazPhirse, Lalbazaar to name a few. The pack comes with a validity of 28 days and it comes with 1.5GB of data per day. The pack also offers 100 SMS per day. In addition, as part of Airtel Thanks benefits the customer also gets access to Airtel Xstream content and Wynk Music subscription.

The Rs 79 top-up offers a subscription to the entire ZEE5 catalogue for 30 days. The convenient top-up will be available to all Airtel customers through the Digital Store Section on Airtel Thanks App.

Previously, the brand revealed that it will offer faster 4G data speeds on the smartphones and connected devices of its selected customers. The company has revealed that the new experience is only exclusive for the Airtel Platinum mobile customers in the country.

Under this, the operator has deployed advanced technologies that give its Platinum mobile customers preference on the network. As a result, all Platinum customers will experience faster 4G speeds. As part of the Airtel Thanks programme, all postpaid mobile customers on Rs 499 and above plans are designated as Platinum

BSNL has introduced a new Rs 499 broadband plan for its customers. The plan is dubbed as ‘100GB CUL’ and it is applicable to all circles except for Andaman and Nicobar, Kerala, West Bengal, Calcutta, and Rajasthan.

The new 100GB CUL BSNL plan comes with 100GB high-speed data and up to 20Mbps speeds. It also offers unlimited local and STD calls within India. 100GB of high speed data with 20Mbps speeds. After the FUP limit is reached, the speed is reduced to 2Mbps. The plan was announced via circular on the BSNL Chennai website.

Earlier in that day, we reported BSNL has launched Rs 94 and Rs 95 prepaid plans with 3GB data. Both the plans come with data and calling benefits. They are offered across India except in Andhra Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Kerala, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, Telangana and Odisha circles.

Plan Advance 94 and Plan Advance 95 come with 3GB data benefits, 100 minutes of free call benefits and 60-day validity for users. The free voice calls can be consumed on the home network and on national roaming including the Delhi and Mumbai circles. However, users need to consume the free data and free voice calls within the plan validity period of 90 days.

After the consumption of free calls on the Rs 94 plan, BSNL charges Rs 1 per minute and Rs 1.3 per minute for local calls and STD calls respectively. After the consumption of free calls on the Rs 95 plan, BSNL will charge Rs 0.02 per second on local calls and Rs 0.024 per second on STD calls.
