D2H, previously known as Videocon D2H and now a DTH brand of Dish TV India Limited, has announced the launch of its ‘D2H Intelligent Assistant’ (DIA), the chatbot in India. The assistant is a one-stop solution for customers to solve service queries in real-time.

The company has revealed that DIA comes with a conversation mode approach in a friendly live chat format. The assistant comes with a host of new features. To start with, it is designed to process user requests and queries 24X7 through deep analytics and its Artificial Intelligence engine. The company claims that it provides accurate, personalized customer service through a constant process of self-evolution and learning.

DIA appears as a pop-up feature on the website and introduces itself as “DIA”. One can initiate a conversation by simply entering a message. It also offers solutions to issues related to recharge offers, current balance, add-on service upgrades and even suggests best recharge offers.

D2H Intelligent Assistant is also available on Whatsapp on contact number 8750917917 and Facebook. It would soon be available on D2H customer app. In the near future, customers would be able to upgrade their set-top boxes or buy new smart products, request for relocation, get transaction history and change registered telephone numbers and language through the chatbot.

Reliance Jio recently made a few changes to its JioFiber broadband plans. The new plans include a doubled data allowance on the annual subscription plans. The new, updated plans are now visible on the company’s website.

Reliance Jio also offers multiple JioFiber plans for its users that go from its Bronze plan to the most expensive Titanium plan. The various plans provide a certain amount of data to users on a monthly cap basis and the new plans take that limit up significantly, allowing users to use more data from home, for their work-from-home needs and entertainment needs.

The JioFiber Bronze Plan offered 250GB in the monthly plan. The new additional data will take the number up to 350GB. Similarly, the JioFiber Silver monthly plan now offers unlimited data up to 800GB.

Those who need more data can opt for higher plans. These include the Gold Plan which now offers unlimited data at 250 Mbps up to 1,750GB per month. Then there is the Diamond plan which offers unlimited data at 500 Mbps up to 4,000GB per month. Finally, there is the most expensive Platinum plan that offers 1 Gbps speed up to 7,500 GB.

In addition to the data usage, all the plans will offer JioFiber users a bunch of complimentary benefits. These include free Jio Voice access anywhere in India. The TV video calling conferencing benefits worth Rs 1,200 a year is also included in the JioFiber plans. Similarly, the plans also offer zero-latency gaming experiences, along with home-networking.

In other news Reliance Jio quietly discontinued its cheapest Rs 98 prepaid plan. The cheapest data plan by the service provider was the cheapest plan under Rs 100. Now, however, the cheapest Reliance Jio prepaid plan will set back users by Rs 129. This plan gets you 2GB data, 1000 minutes of free voice calls to non-Jio network for 28 days.

Microsoft has finally started rolling out the Windows 10 May 2020 update for all Windows 10 computing devices. The major update not only brings bug fixes and new features but also offers a ton of changes under the hood. This means that Microsoft has worked around making the performance better on Windows 10 machines.

With the Windows 10 May 2020 update, the version of Windows 10 will bump up to 2004 from 1909. In order to check for the available update, you can head over to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

To begin with, Microsoft Edge browser, which recently got a beta update based on Chromium, is now being made available to the masses. This means if you have not updated your Edge browser yet, this update will install the new version bring more features to the table. Microsoft claims that the latest version of Edge uses up to 27% lesser RAM than before.

This clearly states that the company is now urging you to ditch the resource-hungry Google Chrome browser for Edge. Notably, the new browser is based on Chromium, which will make the switch much easier for you.

Windows 10 May 2020 update also introduces new features in the Task Manager, where users can now also take a look at the GPU temperature data. The company has now also made Swift Pair for Bluetooth accessories even more simplified. Additionally, the Settings app gets some design changes.

While people do not use the Cortana assistant much already, the company constantly updates it in order to make it function better. Now, the assistant has been updated with a new chat-based interface, which allows users to even type their requests. As usual, the users will be able to access the new Cortana interface from the taskbar.

Microsoft’s Your Phone app, which allows you to sync your Android smartphone with your PC, has also been updated. Microsoft claims that the new update will now allow the Your Phone app to make, receive or text reply to the incoming calls directly on the PC. Apart from this, the Your Phone app allows users to send or receive SMS messages, access notifications and access the photo gallery on your Android phone from your PC.

As for the changes made under the hood, the Windows 10 May 2020 Update brings the Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 (WSL 2), with a custom-built Linux kernel. This will help in improving the performance of Microsoft’s Linux subsystem in Windows.

Lastly, if you use a ton of apps at a time, the new Virtual Desktops feature should help in making your workflow a lot simpler. The users can even rename these virtual desktops in the Windows 10 May 2020 update.

Tata Sky Binge partners with ShemarooMe to offer its subscribers access ShemarooMe’s content library


Tata Sky today announced their partnership with Shemaroo Entertainment Ltd to bring the best of Hindi classic and regional entertainment to the viewers.

The partnership will see a wide array of film and non film entertainment through the ShemarooMe app available on Tata Sky Binge - Tata Sky’s unique OTT platform that aggregates premium content from a variety of leading OTT apps on a single user interface inducing ease in content discoverability and a superior viewing experience.

The collaboration will furnish Tata Sky Binge subscribers access to ShemarooMe’s vast content library of over 15,000+ hours of multi-genre, multi-regional content including Bollywood Premiere, Bollywood Classic, Kids, Devotional, Comedy and Regional content spanning over 3700+ titles.

Subscribers will now be able to access content from ShemarooMe along with already existing OTT apps on the Tata Sky Binge platform including Disney+Hotstar, Zee5, SunNXT, Eros Now and Hungama Play, through a single subscription fee of Rs. 249 every month, which also includes a free 3 month trial of Amazon Prime membership and an Amazon Firestick-Tata Sky Edition to enjoy the large screen content experience.

Smartphone cameras have come a long way, and we’re not just talking about image quality. From a raging megapixel war to built-in multi-sensor modules that give users access to super-wide as well as acro shots, today’s cameras have it all. However, night photography and low light are one area where camera sensors are developing but still haven’t reached their peak. So an app that lets your phone use night vision, that is seen in pitch darkness, sounds unconvincing.

However, the trick is possible if your smartphone happens to have something called a ToF (Time of Flight) sensor. These small sensors are being equipped with more and more phones for various reasons. On some phones, this sensor is on the front and works by sensing faces in 3D to unlock devices. On others, this sensor is on the rear and assists the main camera module with some pretty creative use-cases.

However, today we’ll talk about how you can use your ToF-equipped phone to get night vision. Its pretty simple. All you need is this app called Night Vision / ToF Viewer. The app currently works with Huawei, Honor, and Samsung devices with the sensor.

Night Vision by developer Luboš Vonásek uses your phone’s ToF to quite literally “see in the dark”. The app’s interface essentially works like a camera that takes input from the sensor and gives you a low-resolution output. Not the clearest views, but it does let you see enough to identify what is what in dark environments and may be handy in emergency situations.

As per Max Weinbach from XDA, the app provides a better range on Huawei and Honor devices with the sensor and better quality on Samsung devices. The Night Vision / ToF Viewer app can be downloaded right from the Google Play Store. You will get outputs of resolution 240 x 180 on most supported devices. However, on some newer devices like the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 + and the Galaxy S20+, the app can render surroundings in 320×240 resolution.

BSNL has introduced a new offer for its customers which will enable them to extend their prepaid plan validity for Rs 2.

If you recharge your number with Rs 2 on the last day of the validity of your plan, BSNL will offer a grace period for the extension of validity of three days. Rs 2 will be deducted from the customer main balance on the first day of their grace period. The plan in the extended validity will not offer any other benefits.

The new pack by BSNL is a revised version of the existing Rs 19 validity extension pack. It was announced in January this year that allowed users to extend the validity of their existing prepaid plan by 30 days.

Recently, BSNL launched Rs 1,599 and Rs 899 prepaid plan vouchers for its customers in Odisha circle. The Rs 1,599 BSNL prepaid plan voucher comes with a validity of 425 days and it offers unlimited BSNL calls, 2GB high-speed data per day, and a talktime value of Rs 1,500. The plan voucher also offers calls to other networks at Rs 20 paise per month.

The Rs 899 BSNL prepaid plan voucher offers similar benefits except for reduced talktime value. It comes with a validity of 365 days and offers a talktime value of Rs 100. It also provides unlimited BSNL calls, 2GB high-speed daily data, and calls to other networks at Rs 20 paise per minute.

Previously, BSNL launched Rs 1,498 prepaid special tariff voucher (STV). It comes with 91GB of data which can be used across the entire validity period of 365 days. The plan does not offer voice calling or SMS benefits and it is only a data pack.

Remove China Apps, an Android app that claims to recognize and remove Chinese applications from Android phones is becoming quite popular in India. The app currently tops Google Play Store’s list of top free apps. Launched on May 17, the app has downloaded more than 1 million users so far. A

This came in the limelight when anti-China sentiment reached its peak in the country. Since China is accused of spreading coronavirus on one side and tensions of the India-China border on the other. However, the creators of the Remove China apps claim that the app is “developed for educational purposes.”

Why is it gaining ground
As the name suggests, it identifies the apps that have been developed by Chinese companies. And users can also uninstall them directly via the Remove China apps if they wish. The app went live on the Google Play Store on May 17 and has been downloaded by over 1 million users. The app has largely received positive reviews on the Google Play Store with a 4.8 rating. In particular, the Remove China app only detects applications installed in phones by the Google Play Store or other third-party app stores. Hence, the pre-installed apps delivered to phones by Chinese smartphone manufacturers are left unchecked. The Remove China apps, developed by OneTouch AppLabs, is listed only on the Google Play Store. OneTouch AppLabs claims the company is based in Jaipur, and their website was created on May 8.

At the time when anti-China sentiments are increasing in the country, the ‘Remove China apps’ is being widely downloaded. This sentiment has been sparked by many controversies such as YouTube vs TikTok, India-China border dispute, and the ongoing Covid-19 epidemic. Notably, a survey recently indicated that 67 percent of Indians blame China for the spread of the Covid-19 outbreak. Therefore, due to these controversies, many Indians are now exploring alternatives to Chinese products and phone apps.

WhatsApp for JioPhone and other feature phones running on KaiOS will soon get WhatsApp Status feature. KaiOS has revealed that the brand is planning to bring the Status feature to its platform.

KaiOS Joe Grinstead, in an interview with Android Central, revealed that the Status feature on WhatsApp for JioPhone users is at ‘Gold Master’ stage. This means that the update is ready and it will be soon rolled out to the KaiOS users. He further added that voice calling for WhatsApp on KaiOS will be launched soon, though there is no timeline for it. He says that the voice calling has been ‘particularly challenging’ to implement on low-end smartphones and feature phones.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp is testing QR code support with the latest beta version. The QR code feature is now available on WhatsApp Beta v2.20.171 and users can download it from TestFlight. The website has also shared some screenshots of what the feature may look like.

The WhatsApp QR Code feature will appear in the Profile section in the Settings menu. When you tap on the relevant icon, it will show a QR code. The code can be shared with your friends who can scan the same to get your number, in order for them to find you easily on WhatsApp.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp is reportedly working to bring Messenger Rooms integration to its platform. The new feature is currently under development and it will be introduced to users in the near future.

Remember Opera Mini? The mobile browser has got a new update after months. The changes are limited to the design of the mobile browser. You can update the version 50.0 of the app from Play Store. Even though Chrome for Google is the go-to mobile browser, millions have used Opera Mini and liked it.

The mobile web browser is now offering new set of features based on the design. The moment you in open the app, users will be able to pick theme and colour for their profile. These changes will reflect on the homepage of the browser. But you’ll notice the header part of the browser now gets a subtle shade of gradient. The company has also added new set of button above the search bar. Even categories like news get new colour and their placement has been changed.

The native offline file sharing feature in Opera Mini can transfer files at speeds of up to 300MB/s, making it the fastest solution for file sharing.

To start sending or receiving files, a user needs to open File Sharing in the menu and choose Send or Receive. Opera Mini will display a QR code for the nearby device to scan, connecting the devices. Once a file is successfully transferred, the sender will be notified, and the receiver will be able to access the file in the Received tab shown in Opera Mini.

MTNL has announced a new STV prepaid plan of Rs 251 for its customers. The plan comes with various benefits and available in Mumbai circle.

MTNL STV 251 plan comes with a validity of 28 days and it offers 1GB high-speed 3G data per day, 100 SMSes per day and unlimited free local and STD calls from Home and National Roaming networks. The plan will be available in E-recharge, online recharge and SMS recharge portal. Users can send an SMS ‘SUB RCH’ to 444 and activate the plan, as per TelecomTalk.

There are many other prepaid plans that MTNL offers to its Mumbai subscribers, the cheapest is MTNL STV 98 prepaid plan as well which offers 750MB 3G data per day, unlimited free Local, STD from Home and National Roaming networks and 100 SMSes per day. This plan comes with a validity of 28 days. Like STV 251, this plan also can be recharged through E-recharge, online recharge and SMS recharge portal.

It is to be noted that MTNL STV 251 and STV 98 prepaid plans only offer 3G data as the telecom operator has not launched 4G services in the country.

Previously, MTNL extended the validity of their prepaid packs amid the lockdown. The telco offered Rs 10 additional talktime even after zero balance.

MUMBAI: Tata Sky will cancel channels or packs for about 7 million subscribers from June 15 in a bid to reduce their monthly bills and retain them on the direct-to-home platform.

The rationalisation exercise by the DTH operator is aimed at retaining customers with a monthly billing of Rs 350 monthly or less. The company lost over 1.5 million customers over the past two months after they simply cancelled or failed to renew their subscriptions, many of them calling it unaffordable.

Almost 70% of 5 million subscribers who logged in to the Tata Sky website or app in May wanted to drop channels in order to reduce their monthly bills. While viewers are losing interest because of the unavailability of fresh content and live sports, the coronavirus induced slowdown has affected the spending power of some consumers.

“One million inactive subscribers came back to our platform in March, once the lockdown was implemented. However, 1 million went out in April and another hallf a million didn’t recharge in May,” Harit Nagpal, Managing Director of Tata Sky, told ET.

The company’s analytics team found that deactivation was mostly by subscribers with a monthly billing of less than Rs 400.

“The analytics showed which customers were vulnerable and finding it difficult to pay. So, rather than losing customers entirely, we decided to drop some packs and channels and reduce their monthly bills,” Nagpal explained. “So, for the first time, we will use analytics to downgrade and not up-sell packs.”

Tata Sky has identified 6-7 million of its 18 million subscribers who will benefit from the exercise and save Rs 60-100 per month.

Tata Sky’s decision is a good move to retain subscribers, said Rohit Dokania, senior vice president of research at IDFC Securities.

“As it is difficult to gain new subscribers in the era of video streaming and OTT, Tata Sky’s move will ensure that the customer is retained on the platform for a longer period of time,” said Dokania. “However, as broadcasters are already hard-pressed for advertising revenue, it will be interesting to see how they will take this new arrangement.”

Nagpal said downgrading customers was better than losing them.

“If I am able to control churn, broadcasters still earn, but if the customer leaves, there is no revenue to share. I think it is time to rationalise the packs and retain the consumer. When things go back to normal, we expect customers to start adding channels and we, too, will go back to promoting upgrades,” Nagpal said.

Tata Sky has started giving 15-day notice to subscribers of the change in their packs. Nagpal said if consumers want to retain the channels being discontinued, they have to make a missed call.
