MUMBAI: Telecom operator Bharti Airtel’s direct to home (DTH) arm has added a whopping 479,000 net subscribers during the April-June quarter registering a 107.8% growth over the trailing quarter’s 230,000 net additions.
The company’s total subscriber base increased 3.4% to 14.6 million compared to 14.1 million in the January-March quarter. Average revenue per user (APRU) increased to Rs 229 compared to Rs 228 a quarter ago. Monthly churn reduced to 0.7% compared to 1.1%.
Bharti Telemedia, the holding company of Airtel Digital TV, posted an EBITDA of Rs 401 crore which is an increase of 8.34% compared to trailing quarter’s Rs 370.1 crore. EBIT was up 36% at Rs 208.4 crore compared to Rs 153.8 crore. Total revenue jumped 3.5% to Rs 992.4 crore as against Rs 958.5 crore.
Commenting on the result, Bharti Airtel India & South Asia MD & CEO Gopal Vittal said the non-mobile portfolio continues to witness healthy growth on the back of investments in home passes and HD content.
During the current quarter, the company incurred a capital expenditure of Rs 180.9 crore compared to Rs 206.4 crore. The resultant operating free cash flow during the quarter was at Rs 220.2 crore as compared to Rs 163.7 crore.
Airtel Digital currently offers a total of 659 channels including 75 HD channels, 5 international channels, and 3 interactive services.
During the quarter Airtel launched a first-of-its-kind digital quad-play platform ‘Airtel Home’ that simplifies the customer experience for homes that use multiple Airtel services.
‘Airtel Home’ allows customers to bundle multiple Airtel services – broadband, postpaid and DTH – as a single account with a unified interface.
Customers also get one bill, premium customer support and enjoy up to 10% discount on their total bill. The service was introduced as a pilot for customers in Andhra Pradesh.
Airtel TV, the video and live TV streaming app from Airtel, crossed 50 million downloads on the Android platform. To mark this milestone, Airtel extended the free subscription to Airtel TV for all postpaid and prepaid mobile customers till 30 December.
